While the Australian and US employment markets are very different they do share enough similarities for this article from US News to be a concern to everyone.
According to Adecco’s latest workplace survey, 54 percent are getting ready to start looking elsewhere. No surprise really that the itch to move on is highest among the youngest workers. Adecco reports 71 percent of 18-to-29 year olds plan to look for a new job in the recovery.

Earlier in June specialist vertical search engine Classifind launched their new service the Classifind Job Index.
Each month we will publish information on National job listings as well as break them down by State, Capital Cities, and also show data for each of our 46 individual Sectors. This will be the most comprehensive source of data for job listings in Australia.

In early June Seek released their latest round of labour market statistics, showing some interesting trends. Firstly that the employment marketing might in fact be turning around. Second that the Australian Government’s prediction of 8.5% unemployment will prove wrong.

The evidence is clearest in new job ads registered with SEEK. Between August 2008 and March 2009 new job ads (seasonally adjusted) fell by 44.2%, at a monthly rate of 6.6%. While job ads continued to fall in April and May 2009, the rate of change has slowed significantly to only 1.9% in May.

The job market is still soft the latest ABS figures show that in May 2009 unemployment climbed to 5.7%, an increase of 1.6% over the last 12 months.
