The job market is still soft the latest ABS figures show that in May 2009 unemployment climbed to 5.7%, an increase of 1.6% over the last 12 months.
This growth in unemployment means that many job seekers have to go the extra mile to land a new role.

I was talking to a job seeker the other day who commented on they needed to know how to find employers who used certain software within their business operations. 
So my suggestion, conduct research on LinkedIn. (Note: I am excluding your existing network and job postings.)
Why?
Well you can see which companies to approach as part of a cold calling process but more importantly find a potential contact who can introduce you to the organisation. Remember many roles are filled through word of mouth.

Leveraging your networks is a very good idea, but what happens if you don’t have a large professional network to leverage these new tools? This lack of a network will sometimes limit the effectiveness of being able to access potential jobs.
