Your Online Brand

An interesting issue is starting to brew for job seekers, where does one store their online professional profile? For most people they would say LinkedIn, or for the more technically minded maybe a personal web site along the lines of http://yourname.com.

But with the launch of Facebook’s personalised URLs does this mean Facebook could become your online profile?

At Jobseekr our recommendation is no. Keep a professional and a personal profile. Other than the simple Facebook is more a personal tool there is key reason to not use Facebook.

Googlejuice!

Facebook is a walled garden, meaning  search engines cannot easily index the information, making it very difficult for prospective employers to find you.

Another fact Reid Hoffman, CEO LinkedIn, during his presentation at the recent Social Recruiting Summit stated that if you have more than 10 connections recruiters actually place more trust in your LinkedIn profile than a resume. The reason being most people will not lie in public!

So keep your LinkedIn profile up to date and look at investing in http://yourname.com and set up your our site.
