Best places to work in Australia
On the 30th April the list of the 50 best companies to work for in Australia was released in BRW. The report was undertaken by The Great Place to Work Institute in conjunction with BRW. This year they reviews 220 companies and surveyed 15,064 employees, if you want to learn more about the process have a review of their Trust Index.
From a JobSeeker’s point of view this list is a gold mine! It shows you that place that actually care about their employees vs ones that just say they do. A small feature that you can only get in the hard copy version is which of the organisations are currently hiring!
The top ten organisations are:
- Google Australia
- NetApp Australian
- Russell Investments
- Diageo Australia
- Dynamic Property Services
- ETM Group
- BMD Group
- MRWED Training & Assessment
- RedBalloon
- OBS
The best city to live in to work in the head office for one top 50 organisations is Sydney with over 50% of the organisations based there, followed by Melbourne.
The best industry to work is split 50/50 between Business Services and Information Technology. However Business Services covers a vast array of businesses such as property, branding, recruitment, marketing.
The average number of employees is 259, however the smallest employer, MRWED Training & Assessment, has 20 employees while the largest, Deloitte, is 4,410.
The best news for JobSeekrs is a majority of the employers, 70%, are actively hiring. However this is tempered by the fact that on average the employers receive 2,563 job application per annum. Three organisations impact this number of applications in a big way Deloitte’s with 30,000 applications, Google Australia 19,475 and Corrs Chambers Westgarth with 13,069.
If you are interested in the full list we have pulled together the list in a downloadable format for easy of analysis.
Of interest this list completely disagees with the 2008 Hewitt Best Employers in Australia:
- Bain & Company
- Seek
- Federal Express Pacific
- Inside Mobile
- NSW Teacehrs Credit Union
- Randstand
- The GPT Group
- Westaff
Now of course both surveys use completely different methods and selction criteria so it is not surprising.
